Acid attacks or any attack on either genders because he or she refused to marry the other person, must be strongly condemned and the accused must be treated at par with murderer. Unfortunately, when a man gets attacked by an obsessed woman, it barely emotes any outrage.
Case:
A woman from Tripura allegedly threw acid at her boyfriend as he refused to marry her. The 27-year-old woman has been sent to 14-day judicial remand by a Khowai local court. The accused woman has been identified as Binata Santhal.
The 30-year-old victim is currently at the Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital and is in critical condition. The victim was injured in the respiratory tract, nose and eyes.
While confessing to the crime, Binata told the police that she and the man were in a relationship for over 8-years. They knew each other since their school days and they had shifted to Pune after the man completed his graduation.
In March 2018, the man returned to Tripura, leaving Santhal in Pune. For the next three months, the man ended all contact with Santhal. When the woman returned in August, she could not find the man in his village. Binata then moved to Ranchi and started working at a health training centre.
Recently, she learnt that her former partner had got close to another woman and that infuriated her.
During Durga Puja, the woman met the man at his home in Belcherra village of Khowai in West Tripura and asked him to marry her. When he refused to do so, she scarred him for life with an acid attack.
It is never about how many acid attacks happen over women Vs men. It is one of the most heinous crimes and need to be called out irrespective of the gender. Most probably you may come across some comments on social media, which may be hailing acts of the accused woman, since the man refused to marry her.
