A wedding planner who planned a ‘whole plot’ to frame her ex-husband for stalking her, has been jailed for 28 months, when Christmas-themed Wallace and Gromit stamps helped police found the truth.
Emma Heys claimed that she had been sent dead flowers with their heads cut off on Valentine’s Day, and also along with a note saying “b*****”.
As a part of her ‘web of lies’ formed against her ex-husband Christopher, the 42-year-old sent herself threatening text messages and letters. He was significantly affected due to this wicked act by the woman.
She fabricated evidence leading a family court to issue a non-molestation order on 11 February 2019 in which his Mr Hayes was banned from contacting his wife and also entering Lincolnshire.
After three days, she made the first 19 allegations and made 15 false statements, said the police.
Based on her claims made against the husband, Christopher Heys was arrested three times and spent over 30 hours in police custody.
Referring to CCTV cameras being installed at the woman’s property, the letters delivered to the woman by post or by hand, indicated that the sender was able to watch every single movement of the lady.
In one letter, it was mentioned about her shopping at the Trafford Centre in Manchester, while another letter also mentioned that she had visited Great Yarmouth.
Wallace And Gromit stamps turned the case in other direction
While investing, the Police searched Heys’ address in Lincoln, where they got a cardboard box containing a batch of blank envelopes with stamps on.
One of those envelopes had the same Christmas-themed Wallace And Gromit stamp seen on several envelopes received by the police from the woman.
When forensic testing was conducted by the Officers on the envelopes with DNA under a seal, it indicated that Heys had sealed it herself.
When she was interviewed for hours, she continued to protest her innocence and also refused to accept that she was behind the whole conspiracy.
Instead, she made further allegations against Mr. Heys when she was arrested in April 2019.
Heys admitted that she had sent the messages to herself-although she continued to deny sending the letters- when she was re-interviewed in October 2019.
Police spent more than two years piecing together the evidence in the case, as the COVID pandemic caused a delay in the investigation.
The Police Officers trawled hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and went through around 100,000 downloaded pages/images in the phone which provided an alibi for Mr Heys.
Afterward, she was summonsed to attend at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court in September last year and found guilty at a subsequent crown court hearing to three separate counts of perverting the course of justice between February and July 2019.
Heys’ defence barrister suggested she had been suffering from a mental illness and also struggling to cope with her mother who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
