Atul Subash Case Summary
The tragic and deeply saddening bengaluru techie suicide of 34-year-old, Atul Subhash, has left many in shock and questioning the circumstances.
Atul Subhash, originally from Bihar, moved to Bengaluru after completing his studies and worked as an automobile executive. In 2019, he married Nikita Singhania, whom he met online. In early 2020, Nikita and her family pressured Atul for money, demanding expensive gifts and investments in her brother’s business.
After initially complying, Atul refused further financial support. In May 2021, Nikita left him and their son, later filing and withdrawing a divorce case. She also demanded maintenance and filed multiple legal cases, including charges of domestic violence and dowry harassment.
In 2022, Nikita accused Atul’s family of demanding Rs. 10 lakhs in dowry, claiming her father’s death was caused by the stress, though it was later revealed he had died of heart issues. Nikita continued filing cases, but many were dismissed due to her absence in court.
In 2024, Nikita filed another domestic violence case, and Atul, after attending numerous hearings and facing legal battles, took his life on December 10, 2024.
He left a 24-page suicide note and an 80-minute video accusing a judge and prosecutor of corruption. His note blamed Nikita and her family for his decision and detailed his final wishes, including keeping his family away from his body.
His death sparked widespread discussion about the misuse of legal provisions in matrimonial cases. Atul had previously emailed an NGO about his intention to commit suicide, which alerted the police, but he was found dead upon their arrival.
Following his death, his brother filed an FIR against Nikita and her family under charges of abetment of suicide.

Bengaluru Techie Atul Subhash’s Suicide Case:
Here’s What Has Happened So Far
The tragic suicide of 34-year-old tech professional Atul Subhash in Bengaluru has brought allegations of harassment, extortion, and misuse of legal authority into the spotlight.
Subhash was discovered dead at his home on December 9, leaving behind a 24-page suicide note and a placard reading “justice is due.” The note accused his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family of driving him to take his own life.
In the note, Subhash detailed instances of harassment, including physical and emotional abuse, along with financial demands allegedly made by Nikita and her family during their ongoing divorce proceedings.
Following the incident, Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, filed a complaint with the Marathahalli police, leading to an FIR against Nikita and her family based in Uttar Pradesh. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivakumar confirmed the investigation, stating, “Atul Subhash committed suicide in the early hours of December 9. A complaint has been filed… alleging that his wife and her family demanded money from him and harassed him. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered, and an investigation is underway.”
Allegations in the Suicide Note
Atul’s suicide note accused Nikita and her family of making persistent financial demands, claiming they sought exorbitant sums as alimony and maintenance.
Expressing his frustration with the justice system, Atul wrote, “The more I work hard and become better at my work, the more I and my family will be harassed and extorted.” He also stated that his death would relieve the financial burden on his family, which he alleged was the main reason behind the harassment.
Bikas Kumar added that the note described repeated instances of mental and physical abuse, leaving Atul deeply distressed. The family has called for a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
Denial of Allegations
Nikita’s family has vehemently denied the allegations outlined in the suicide note.
Sushil Singhania, Nikita’s 70-year-old uncle named in the FIR, said, “I learned from media reports that I’ve been named in the FIR. But I have no connection with this. The divorce proceedings have been ongoing for three years. Now, suddenly, this has happened. Our family is not guilty. The court will deliver its judgment.”
He added that Nikita, currently away, would address the allegations upon her return. “Subhash’s claims are baseless. Nikita is not here, but she will respond to everything once she returns. She has answers to every allegation. I live separately and have limited information about the case,” he said.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Bengaluru police have launched an investigation and dispatched teams to Uttar Pradesh to question Nikita and her family. Authorities are gathering evidence and statements to verify the claims made in the suicide note.
This case has reignited debates about the emotional and financial pressures faced by individuals entangled in prolonged legal battles, particularly in family disputes.
Atul’s suicide note also criticised the justice system, alleging it had failed to address his grievances and protect him from harassment.
Atul left behind a 24-page suicide note and a 90-minute video accusing his wife and her family of harassment and extortion. His brother, Bikas Modi, alleged false cases were filed against Atul, with demands for ₹3 crore as a settlement. Mishra added that Atul’s claims of harassment and frequent travel for court hearings should be investigated.
