In an effort to hold cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his friend accountable for alleged molestation, social media influencer Sapna Gill has filed a private complaint with a Magistrate’s court, requesting an FIR. She claims that the intoxicated cricketer assaulted her during the incident. Gill has also lodged a second complaint against two police officers from the Airport Police Station, accusing them of neglecting their duty by failing to register her complaint against Shaw. Both complaints will be heard on April 17.
On February 15, in Mumbai, the Oshiwara Police apprehended Sapna Gill and three others on suspicion of verbally abusing and physically assaulting Prithvi Shaw, as well as damaging his vehicle. According to reports, Shaw and his companions were having dinner at the Hotel Sahara Star when Gill and her acquaintance Shobit Thakur approached them multiple times for selfies. It is claimed that after Shaw and his friend departed from the hotel at 4 am, Gill and her friends, who were on motorcycles and in a car, confronted and verbally abused them.
After being granted bail by the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate’s court, all the accused, including Sapna Gill, have been released from custody. Gill has now filed a petition with the Bombay High Court, seeking to have the FIR against her dismissed.
In her latest complaints, Gill has requested that Prithvi Shaw and his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav be charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354 (molestation), 509 (insult to modesty), and 324 (causing hurt with a dangerous weapon), alleging that they attacked her with a bat. She has also provided medical evidence from a government hospital, which can be vital evidence of sexual assault.
According to Sapna Gill’s complaint, only her friend approached Prithvi Shaw for a selfie. Shaw and his companion were in an intoxicated state and responded aggressively towards her friend, prompting Gill to step in and attempt to intervene. However, she was pushed away and the group was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat. Gill claims that she intervened to prevent further harm to her friend and pleaded with the intoxicated Shaw to stop the assault. These details were included in the complaint filed by Gill through her advocate Ali Kashiff Khan.
