After being accused by his brother of having a romantic involvement with his wife, a man was required to undergo Agnipariksha.
In Banjarupally village of Telangana, a man was compelled to undergo Agnipariksha, a test by fire, to demonstrate that he was not engaged in a romantic relationship with his elder brother’s spouse. The man’s brother had brought the matter to the attention of the village panchayat, which insisted on the test by fire to establish his innocence.
The man had to take a hot iron rod out of the burning coal as part of the Agnipariksha. Nevertheless, sources suggest that the village leaders were not content with the test and coerced the man into admitting his “wrongdoing.” Following this, the man’s spouse reportedly sought assistance from the police.
