On Thursday, Delhi Police filed a cancellation report in the POCSO case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh- BJP MP & Former Wrestling Federation of India Chief. However, the police have filed a charge sheet against him in sexual harassment cases.
The Special Public Prosecutor, Atul Srivastava told the media that a charge sheet before Rouse Avenue Court has been filed under section 354, 354D, 354A IPC against Singh.
While asking about the POCSO case, he told that a cancellation report has been filed before the Patiala House Courts and the matter has been fixed for further consideration on July 04.
In the sexual harassment case filed by seven Indian Female Wrestlers, ACMM Deepak Kumar of Rouse Avenue Court has fixed the matter for further consideration and to take cognizance of the charge sheet on June 22.
The BJP’s MP has been accused of sexual harassment by women wrestlers. In the same matter, Delhi Police had registered two FIRs at the Connaught Place police station against him. One FIR against Singh was registered under various offenses under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860, whereas another FIR was filed under the POCSO Act.
The alleged incidents of Sexual harassment are said to take place between 2016 to 2019 at the WFI office, at Singh’s official residence, and also abroad, some media reports confirmed.
The reports also confirmed that the minor who also had made sexual allegations, had reportedly withdrawn her case against Singh.
The charge sheet against the BJP’s top MP is said to be a moral win for the Wrestlers who were protesting for the last few months on Jantar Mantar and have paused their protest till June 15. It can be considered as a first step towards Justice.
