Since the decriminalisation of adultery in 2018, its impact has been observed in both urban and Tier II, III cities in India. A recent case from Rohtak in Haryana involved a man catching his wife in the act with her lover in a hotel room. The subsequent events are indicative of women who show no respect for the sanctity of marriage.

Case:

On Monday, a man in Rohtak received information from an acquaintance that his wife was at a hotel room near Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) with her lover from their neighbourhood. The man promptly arrived at the hotel, causing a disturbance and verifying the register to confirm that his wife was occupying Room No. 102. Upon catching the couple in a compromising position, a commotion ensued, resulting in the involvement of law enforcement. Notably, the wife had used a false identity to check into the hotel.

The police took all three individuals into custody and transported them to the police station for interrogation.

Wife’s Statement

During the police interrogation, the woman stated that she had voluntarily accompanied her lover to the hotel. As a result, the police were unable to take any legal action against her.

Wife Calls Her Family

Subsequent to the aforementioned incident, the woman contacted her family members and requested their immediate presence. However, since her parents did not comply with her demands, the woman departed with her lover in the presence of her husband and law enforcement personnel. She did not return to either her marital or maternal home. Following this, the woman’s brother-in-law contacted her husband and issued threats to harm him.

Police Statement

As per Praveen, the investigating officer, a case has been registered against all three individuals, including the wife, her lover, and the wife’s brother-in-law. The charges were filed based on a complaint filed by the husband, and the case is currently under investigation. The facts of the matter will only become apparent following the conclusion of the investigation.
